What should I do?
Consult your doctor if you are interested.
What happens if I am not eligible?
Blood from other donors will be made available to you.
The HK Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service takes voluntary blood donation and all persons coming forward to give blood are carefully screened before they are accepted as blood donors. The blood collected is subjected to a series of stringent tests including syphilis, hepatitis B, C, HTLV-1 and the AIDS viruses and must pass all these tests before it is issued to hospitals. The risk of contracting hepatitis is less than one in ten thousand and that of the AIDS virus is under one in a million in Hong Kong.
