The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) held the Annual Donor Award Ceremony on 29 May and 5 June 2016 to present awards to those who had cumulatively achieved 25-time donations or above as at last year. There were 1962 blood donors who had cumulatively donated 25 times and 1179 blood donors who cumulatively achieved 50 donations or more (higher multiples of 25). We were very honoured to have the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man as the officiating guests and present awards at the ceremony on 5/6/2016 respectively.
Other officiating guests at the ceremonies also included Professor John Leong Chi-Yan, HA Chairman, Dr Leung Pak-yin, Chief Executive of Hospital Authority, Mr Vincent W S Lo Chairman of Hong Kong Red Cross, , Mrs Patricia S H Ling, Deputy Chairman of Hong Kong Red Cross; Dr Dr C Y Lo, Cluster Chief Executive of Kowloon Central Cluster, Mr Philip Tsai, Chairman of Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) Governing Committee, Mr. Ambrose Ho, BTS HGC Deputy Chairman.
In his speech, Dr Ko pointed out that facing the ageing population and increasing demand for medical services, more youngsters should participate in blood donation as new donors to save more lives.
Mr Philip Tsai, the Chairman of Hong Kong Red Cross BTS Hospital Governing Committee, appreciated the awardees and urged citizens to support the theme of this year’s World Blood Donor Day - “Blood connects us all” to donate blood for a stabilised blood supply in Hong Kong.
